That broader purpose should keep expectations around his debut realistic. One strong start would not prove that the trade succeeded, just as one difficult start would not make it a failure.
However, the timing gives Los Angeles an immediate chance to see whether Skubal can provide the quality that the rotation lacked in the series opener: dependable command under pressure.
Is the Dodgers’ Four-Game Slide a Serious Crisis?
No. Four consecutive losses do not erase the Dodgers’ larger championship ambitions or suddenly make one August game decisive.
The streak does create a useful test. Los Angeles has matched its longest losing run of the season, and the team has just added a pitcher expected to stabilize its rotation.
A composed Skubal performance could interrupt the slide and reduce pressure on the bullpen. It could also show how quickly his strengths translate after changing teams.
The outcome will become more revealing if Skubal pitches effectively and Los Angeles still struggles. That would suggest the recent losses involve broader issues such as relief pitching, defensive execution or the team’s ability to convert scoring opportunities.
