The CBSE Class 12 compartment result 2026 may display RT, RP, RB, COMP or ER beside a subject or in the overall result field. RT means Repeat in Theory, RP means Repeat in Practical, RB means Repeat in Theory and Practical Both, COMP means Compartment, and ER means Essential Repeat. These codes describe different situations and do not automatically require the same next step.
CBSE declared the Class XII Supplementary Examination Result 2026 on August 12, 2026. Its official result announcement says the examination included compartment candidates, students with six subjects and improvement candidates. A code must therefore be read together with the candidate’s examination category and overall result.

What Is the Difference Between RT, RP and RB?
RT, RP and RB identify the examination component that has not been cleared. For a Class XII subject involving practical work, CBSE requires at least 33 percent in theory and 33 percent in practical separately, along with 33 percent in the subject overall, under its published pass criteria.
CBSE’s 2026 supplementary practical-examination circular states that RP candidates appeared only in practical while their theory marks were carried forward. RB candidates appeared in both theory and practical. RT applies to theory, with previously cleared practical marks generally carried forward.
Does RT Mean the Student Failed Class XII?
RT shows that the theory component of a subject has not been cleared. It does not, by itself, establish the overall Class XII result, which depends on the candidate’s category and the COMP or ER status.
CBSE’s result announcement identifies improvement candidates as students who had already passed Class XII but wanted to improve their performance in one subject. It also identifies six-subject candidates who had already been declared passed after an additional subject replaced an uncleared main subject. Such candidates should read RT against the attempted subject together with the overall result shown on their official marksheet.
What Does COMP Mean After the 2026 Supplementary Result?
COMP means the subject has not been cleared, but it does not show which numbered chance was used. CBSE provides three opportunities. A 2026 main-examination candidate who took the July supplementary examination ordinarily used the first opportunity. Some 2025 candidates, however, used the 2026 supplementary examination as their third and final chance, as CBSE’s private-candidate circular confirms.
Another opportunity may remain after the first or second attempt but none remains after the third and final attempt. CBSE says post-result facilities will be notified separately, so candidates should not treat an estimated application date as official.
How Is ER Different From COMP?
ER means Essential Repeat and describes a broader result position. It is not a subject-component code such as RT, RP or RB, and it should not be treated as another compartment chance.
CBSE’s registration instructions allow eligible Essential Repeat candidates to reappear through the applicable private-candidate process or as regular candidates through a school. Candidates repeating as regular students appear in all subjects and must satisfy the attendance and practical, project or internal-assessment requirements described by CBSE.
The candidate should check the overall result, contact the school and follow the official registration notice for the next main examination. This is different from registering for one remaining compartment subject.
